There are several factors to look at so as to get family car safety. Of all these factors the vehicle condition is most important. You may look into this when buying the car. If it is already in your possession you may go to an auto repair shop and fix a few parts. The safety of you family is your responsibility and you have to achieve it.

When making an automobile purchase there are some things to look at with safety in mind. For starters consider the people who shall be driving it. Its features have to be within their driving abilities. Then you shall have to consider its regular passengers. The passengers ages shall be very important in this decision. Moreover you should consider if you will have to have child seats installed.

The car you shall buy should have the following features in top notch condition. Manual air bag switch, built in child seats, shoulder or lap belt for the rear center passenger seat, adjustable seat belts, safety seats tethers and anchorages and an interior trunk release. If you are buying a used car you can get all these renewed at your garage.

Child seats are determined by the ages and the weight of the children in the family. Rear facing child seats are designed for children who weigh less than twenty pounds and these are kids below the age of one year. Forward facing seats are for children between the weight of twenty to forty pounds who have attained the age of one year.

There are belt positioning booster seats for children who weigh over forty pounds. These belts should fit across the lap and across the chest and shoulder. When the child is big enough to fit the lap and shoulder belts they may start using it. Parents should ensure the fit across the lap and across the chest and shoulder. Always have the child on the back seat of the car.

There are a few more things that should also always be checked regularly. The condition of the tires and its pressure should be given a routine check. Fluids of parts of the car that require fluids. These are the oil, brake fluid, greased parts and wiper blades. Ensure a professional checks on the brakes from time to time.

Last but not least assemble a family car safety kit that shall never leave the vehicle. It is important that it contains a flashlight to use when you get a problem during the dark. The kit may have flares for alerting road users in case of an accident. You should also get first aid basics and a first aid kit for the car.
