Take A Dulles Reagan Shuttle For An Easy Transfer

By Myrtle Cash

If you're flying into or from the United States via the nation's capital, it's possible that your connecting light will depart from a different airport than the one you've arrived at. It's easy enough to make the transfer between the two airports by taxi. For a more economical yet stress-free transfer, however, you may want to consider a Dulles Reagan shuttle.

About 26 miles from the capital, you'll find Washington Dulles International Airport. Of the three airports serving DC, this is the largest and busiest. In fact, it's one of America's busiest airports with around a thousand passengers a day coming through here on their way to or from destinations around the world.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport lies in Virginia too but is just across the border from DC. It handles mainly shorter domestic flights. However, there are a small number of international routes to and from this airport too, for example the Toronto route and the seasonal Bermuda route.

The distance between the two airports is about 30 miles. Theoretically, it should take about half an hour to drive this distance. Heavy traffic at peak hour can however cause the traveling time to be substantially longer. When you book your flights, be sure to make provision for the time it will take to get to the next airport. Don't forget that you'll also have to factor in the time you'll need to get through airport security and that flights usually close an hour before departure time.

If for some reason you're stuck at Dulles airport, you don't have to be bored. Within a couple of miles from the terminal you'll find attractions like the National Air and Space Museum for things aeronautical and Frying Pan Park for a look at rural life in the 1930s. You may also head for the nearby golf course to get the blood pumping again before your next flight.

A great airport to be stuck at for a few hours is Reagan, since it's close enough to DC to enjoy some of the city's most famous attractions. The White House is about 12 minutes away, for instance. The National Mall is even closer. Here you'll find the Lincoln Memorial, several museums and war memorials like the poignant Korean War Veterans Memorial. Cross the river back into Arlington County and you're right at the Arlington National Cemetery, where John F. Kennedy was buried.

It's very easy to reach the area's attractions from the airport. A taxi or rented bike can get you to your destination in minutes. Alternatively, take the train. There is a station at the terminal building and one at Arlington National Cemetery. The nearest station to the National Mall is only a short walk away from that part's many famous attractions.

A Dulles Reagan shuttle is just as easy to find. Simply look for one once you land, since several companies operate from either airport. Another option is to look online before your trip and book your transfer before you leave home. This is especially wise if you don't have much time between flights and want to be sure that you'll make your connection on time.
