Towed vehicles are of varying sizes starting with smaller cars to big SUVs.

The advantage of a toad is that it can be pulled on a narrow byway and a mountainous road that is risky for large vehicles. Vehicles that malfunction when on roads are to be towed and it is the same case with those involved in road accidents. Sea vessels like ships also develop mechanical problems and have to be towed to the seashore. New cars that are purposed for sell have to be transported by trailers to the final destination.

Some vehicles are specifically designed for hauling whereas some have to be modified to perform this work. Some dinghies can be moved with all wheels in contact with the ground whereas some are towed with the control wheels not touching the earth. There is no easy way of doing this job nor is there an automobile that can be easily towed away. The easiness with which the work is done dependent on skills and efficiency of individual person.

There are 3 fundamental techniques that are commonly utilized in tow work. Tow bar system is the first technique. In the technique, the toad is towed with its wheels in contact with the ground. It is a cheaper and easier method. A tow bar system has 2 main parts, the base plates and the tow bars or wishbone portions. Base plates are connected on the chassis of the dinghies. A base plate is the position of attachment for the a tow bar.

The second method is the tow dolly. The method involves a short and two-wheeled trailer known as dolly, which transports the dinghies with two of their wheels not touching the ground. The 2 drive wheels of the dinghy are placed on the dolly while the remaining two touch the earth. The dinghy is tied to the dolly with chains or straps.

The third method includes use of trailers. Trailers are utilized to tow dinghies with their four wheels not making contact with the ground. They may be used to tow more than one dinghy at ago. They have personal brakes and do not depend on the braking systems of the dinghies in any way. They have large spaces with larger towing capacities.

Hauling has several disadvantages. With the trailer technique, loading and off-loading may be cumbersome and can take several hours. A dolly is too expensive to buy in addition to the complicated hookup procedure. A base plate is unique to each vehicle and in case the dinghy does not have one then installing one may be very expensive.
