Helpful Information About Finding A Denver Windshield Chip Repair Shop

By Helga Stokes

A windshield can become chipped easily if a stone or other hard object flies up from the road and hits it when the vehicle is in motion. Once this occurs, there is an urgent need to get it fixed quickly so the chip does not become a crack. Before deciding on a Denver windshield chip repair service, drivers should first know what is needed and what they should be looking for.

The repair involves injecting a resin into the damaged area with a special tool which fastens onto the glass. Next, the resin is cured and polished to blend in with the rest of the glass. The end results depend on how extensive the damage was. Sometimes a repaired windshield looks as good as new, other times a slight blemish may be detected.

If the damage is anywhere from the size of a quarter to three inches in length, most facilities will be able to fix it. Many shops will recommend replacement if the crack is longer than this, however some are able to fix one as long as twelve inches. It may be necessary for the customer to call a few places and find out what what their limits are.

Whether the chip can be fixed or a new windshield is needed can also depend on whereabouts the damage is on the glass. When it is located somewhere on the edges, it is usually straightforward to fix provided it is done in a timely manner. If it is situated in the center however, where the driver's field of vision is located, some services will not patch it because it can cause distortions that can impede the view while driving.

One of the most important factors in the success of a repair is the timing. Waiting too long will certainly increase the likelihood of the damage spreading, and it can also mean that dirt may get into the the damaged spot, making it harder to fix well. When the damage has been caused by a bigger object, in most cases a replacement will be required.

Most prices charged are pretty much the same across the board. If there is more than one chip, the subsequent ones will normally be less than half the fee charged for the first one. Usually the cost to replace a windshield will vary more. The price is often determined by the type of glass used. If it is OEM (original equipment manufacturer) glass, this is generally more costly than non-OEM products, even though these must meet certain standards to be acceptable.

Various types of businesses may offer this kind of work; mobile glass technicians, automotive glass shops, car dealers, and windshield repair services. By choosing a dealer, there is a better chance that they will used OEM products in their work, but they don't always, and some other facilities will use these or equally rated non-OEM products. Any sealers and adhesives used in the work should be OEM quality.

If in need of a Denver windshield chip repair customers will likely be eligible for full insurance coverage. Most insurers are pleased when their clients opt to fix rather than replace, so they offer this as an incentive. When a replacement is necessary, this costs them more, with the customer only paying the deductible.
