Ferrari 458 Italia Real Life

Revealed in July the 458 Italia has mainly been viewed on race tracks through special media junkets or Ferrari's own PR materials. So the good folks at Teamspeed.com community tipped us onto to some new material of the Ferrari 458 Italia in a more urban environment.

In addition to closeup photos, the video montage running 4m 39s places the 458 in various scenarios. Filmed in The Netherlands the 458 is one of the first examples to arrive in the country. The videographer who world as a car washer/detailer at a Porsche dealership is often exposed to exotic cars and found this particular 458 at Kroymans Ferrari/Aston Martin/Maserati in Hilversum.

Although no official announcements have been made yet, alleged pricing documents have leaked and European market launch is expected in spring 2010.

Ferrari 458 Italia Pricing Revealed

European pricing for the Ferrari 458 Italia will begin at €162,900 excluding tax, according to a leaked pricing sheet obtained by TeamSpeed.com. The document also indicates that UK pricing should begin at £149,246, with value-added tax costing an additional £26,118 in that country.A second sheet, found on Dutch website AutoGespot, indicates VAT in the Netherlands as €30,951, with an additional passenger car tax of €77,271, making the on-the-road cost €271,122.

While these prices are higher than the F430, which this vehicle replaces, they are not as high as expected. Naturally, Ferrari has set option prices for the 458 Italia that could easily add thousands of Euros, Pounds, or Dollars to the pricetag.Metallic paint sets you back €2,350 (£2,153), but if you want the car painted in a signature 1950s or 1960s color, expect to pay another €7,050 (£6,459). If you order the €2,200 (£2,016) electric seats, add another €2,030 (£1,860) to include racing harnesses. Painted brake calipers may look nice inside the €3,500 (£3,207) 20-inch forged alloy wheels, but add another €850 (£779) for the design touch.

Ferrari 458 Italia and Details on the Interior

Maranello has just released a fresh batch of images as well as new details about the interior of its latest masterpiece, the 458 Italia. Not surprisingly, Ferrari supports that the interior design of its F430 replacement derives directly from the firm's F1 experience and that the steering wheel and instrument binnacle represent "a significant step forward in the concept of the ergonomic interface between driver and car".


On the 458 Italia, the main commands are grouped on the steering wheel while the secondary ones are set in two satellite pods on either side of the dash. Ferrari's engineers eliminated all steering-column mounted stalks, with the indicators, full beam, flash and windscreen wiper functions now being activated by buttons on the steering wheel boss. Moreover, the button to select the shock absorber setting is now positioned next to the "Engine start".

Put your hands behind the steering wheel and you'll discover a number of secondary functions, such as the stereo system controls. Ferrari also says that the gearbox paddles are now longer to help make shifts easier from any steering angle.

As for the two satellite pods on the dash, the one on the right houses controls for the infotainment system, the Bluetooth connection, sat-nav, digital speedo and rear parking camera while the one on the left, for the optional cruise control, buttons for choosing the video setting of the left-hand dash TFT screen and the on-board computer interface.

The 458 Italia is powered by a mid-mounted 4.5-liter V8 engine with direct-injection that pushes out 570HP at a whopping 9,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 540Nm or 398.2 lb-ft at 6,000 rpm.

The V8 powerhouse is coupled to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission driving the rear wheels and launching the 458 Italia to 100km/h (62mph) from rest in less than 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of over 325km/h (202mph).
