Mercedes-Benz Launches SL Night Edition

Two new special edition roadster models have been added to Mercedes-Benz's European range. Both the SL Night Edition and SLK Grand Edition gain numerous interior and exterior features, and are available for order now.

Starting with the SL Night Edition, Merc's flagship hardtop roadster is finished in an exclusive designo magno night black paint and features 19-inch AMG five-spoke light-alloy wheels in a two-tone, high-gloss finish, silver-painted front brake callipers with the Mercedes-Benz logo and darkened headlamps/tail lights.

Inside, the SL's cabin is dressed in black nappa leather and shining chrome trim while the seats also have arrow-shaped seams and silver-colored contrasting features. Finally, the sports steering wheel, shift lever and roof lining are in black.

Moving onto the SLK Grand Edition, the compact roadster is distinguished on the outside by the designo graphite paint finish, 18-inch light-alloy wheels with five triple spokes, silver-coloured fins on the bonnet and darkened headlamps.

Interior highlights include the standard AIRSCARF system, the new seats that are upholstered in basalt grey nappy leather, with red stitching and arrow-shaped seams. Basalt grey nappa leather is also used for the door linings and is contrasted by the designo pearl leather armrests.

Depending on the engine variant, the additional cost for the special models is between 3700 and 5200 Euro for the SL Night Edition and between 2300 and 3500 Euro for the SLK Grand Edition.

Pre-Facelift Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

If you happen to own a pre-facelift Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG but at the same time you're more fond of the redesigned version that was introduced at last year's Geneva Motor Show, then you have two options; either go buy the '09 model or give Inden-Design a call as the German tuner has developed a new package that will transform your pre-2008 SL 65 AMG into a 2009 model.

Using original AMG parts, Inden-Design replaces the pre-2008 SL 65 AMG's bonnet, front and rear bumper, grille, headlamps, side skirts, exterior mirrors and exhaust pipes to attain the MY09 look. These changes are complemented by a set of new 19-inch alloys shod in high-performance tires (255/30-19 up front and 305/25-19 at the rear).

Interior changes are limited to the new four-spoke steering wheel dressed in alcantara derived from the SL 65 AMG's evil-twin, the Black Series model.

Furthermore, Inden-Design offers a performance kit that includes a re-engineered turbocharger, a new intercooler, modified ECU and an extra gear oil cooler that helps the bi-turbocharged V12 engine produce an additional 68-horspower for a total output of 680HP.

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series 670Hp

The evil-twin of the recently facelifted Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG has a name: Black Series. The most menacing SL to exit AMG’s factory comes with a breathtaking $320,000 price tag and a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine pumping out 670HP at 5,400 rpm and 738 lb.-ft of torque (SL65 AMG: 612Hp).

But that’s not all as the SL65 AMG Black Series features carbon fiber hood, fenders and trunk, along with a fixed carbon fiber roof with an integrated roll cage that replaces the retractable hard top. As a result, the Black Series weighs in at 4,122 pounds (1,869 kg) or 550 pounds (250kg) less than the stock SL65.

AMG also souped up the appearance of the Black Series with an aerodynamic wide bodykit that features seven air ducts - three in the bumper, two on the hood and two in the fenders- to cool off the massive twin-turbocharged V12 engine. According to preliminary figures, the Black Series can go from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.9 sec while top speed is limited to 199 mph or 320 km/h.

2009 Mercedes-Benz SL 63 & 65 AMG – New Double Clutch Semi-Auto Transmission

Following a streak of leaks the past two months or so, Mercedes-Benz finally came out with an official announcement on the 2009 SL 63 and 65 AMG models. Whilst the SL 65 AMG retains its bi-turbocharged V12 unit that generates 612 HP, the SL 63 AMG is an all-new model fitted with a naturally aspirated 525 HP 6.3L V8 and it replaces the outgoing SL 55 AMG which was equipped with a 515 HP supercharged 5.5-liter V8 engine.

However, the big news here is that Mercedes-Benz has equipped the 2009 SL 63 AMG with its first ever double-clutch semi-auto transmission, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports gearbox. The bad news is that the new twin-clutch gearbox will be used exclusively in AMG high-performance vehicles. Sales of both AMG models will start in Europe this April, with prices set at €145,239.50 or $210,670 for the SL 63 AMG and at €221,518.50 or $321,312 for the SL 65 AMG

2009 Mercedes-Benz SL With 30 New Images

Following yesterday’s leak, we just discovered a new image gallery of the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class on the internet that contains 30 official pictures of the facelifted roadster. Set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March, before going on sale in April, the 2009 SL roadster features a heavily revised front-end along with minor tweaks in the interior.

Mechanical changes include the new variable ratio, speed sensitive steering system and the addition of a new entry-level model, the SL 280 that’s equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 delivering 231 HP and a maximum torque of 300 Nm or 231 lbs/ft. Also, Mercedes replaced the SL 55 AMG with the SL 63 AMG which features a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine delivering 525 HP and 630 Nm of torque.
